Lighter Amphibious Resupply Cargo
A Lighter Amphibious Resupply Cargo Vessel (LARC) checks the water level prior to disembarking members of 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, from a Landing Craft Utility (LCU) assigned to the “Surf Riders “ of Assault Craft Unit ONE (ACU-1). ACU-1 is attached to the amphibious assault ship USS Tarawa (LHA 1), who are all participating in exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2004. RIMPAC is the largest international maritime exercise in the waters around the Hawaiian Islands. This years exercise includes seven participating nations; Australia, Canada, Chile, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States. RIMPAC is intended to enhance the tactical proficiency of participating units in a wide array of combined operations at sea, while enhancing stability in the Pacific Rim region.
