Amphibious Assault Vehicle

An armored assault vehicle assigned to Combat Assault Company (CAC), 3rd Marine Regiment, transports Indonesian Marines from the Royal Australian Navy Ship HMAS Tobruk (LSH 50) to shore for a beach assault exercise at Pacific Missile Range Facility Barking Sands as part of this year's Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2008 exercise. A lighter amphibious resupply cargo (LARC) brings equipment to help clear some of the rubble in areas affected by the December 26, 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia. More than 18,000 Marines, Sailors, Airmen, Soldiers and Coast Guardsmen with Combined Support Force Five Three Six (CSF-536), working with international militaries and non-governmental organizations to aid the affected people of Thailand, Sri Lanka and Indonesia after the tsunami devastated the region. VAB

A French Marine VAB takes the beach during a Non-combatant Evacuation Operation (NEO) exercise held on the western coast of Scotland. The VAB (Vehicule de l'Avant Blinde) is a front-line tactical armoured vehicle that can be fitted with a selection of weapon systems including a 12.7 mm or 25 mm Dragar turret, an anti-tank missile launcher turret or a variety of mortar systems. The event is part of Exercise Northern Light 03, which includes military personnel from 12 NATO nations, and is held every four years.
